Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation will increase their ticket fares from June 29th, 2014 onwards. MTR ticket prices will increase by an overall average of 3.6%. It is said, that 52% of all passengers trips will be adjusted by no more than 20 HK cents while 9% remain unchanged.

Travellers, commuters and passengers are still trying to cope with last year’s MTR ticket price adjustment (June 30th, 2012). Hong Kong citizens are very unhappy about the fact that earning over 13 billion Hong Kong dollars last year, Hong Kong MTR Corporation still will raise the price of tickets.

As a matter of fact, it is the fifth consecutive year in which ticket prices have risen. To compensate the loss of passengers and calm everyone’s anger, MTR Corporation launches some additional promotions to sweeten “the deal”.

The counter measures to ease the effect of the ticket price increase will include similar actions to last year’s promotions. The 2014 new package of MTR fare promotions throughout 2014 and 2015 includes:

– The continuation of the “10% Same-Day Second-Trip Discount” promotion for another 10 months starting from June 29, 2014 until April 30, 2015.

– Launch of a new MTR City Saver Ticket on June 8th, 2014. Medium and long-distance travellers can purchase this special MTR City Saver Ticket for HK$ 400 and are entitled to take 40 rides in the pre-designed zone within 30 days counted from the day of first use.
