Hong Kong Avenue of Stars has a new attraction: a 2-meter high bronze statue of popular Canto-Pop legend and movies star Anita Mui Yim Fong was unveiled in Tsim Sha Tsui on July 18, 2014.

Many of you may be know Anita Mui only from the popular international movies “Rumble in the Bronx” with Jackie Chan, “The Heroic Trio” (with Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung) or in her role in “Rogue” where she won the Best Actress Golden Horse Award.

However, Anita Mui was also known as the Madonna of Asia. She sold over 10 million albums worldwide, had eight gold records and her songs are loved by generations of fans and influenced many other popular Canto-Pop singers.

Anita Mui who died at the age of 40 (on December 30th, 2003) of cervical cancer remained in the heart of her fans and it was only a question of time when this Hong Kong legend would get a place to commemorate her achievements.

The bronze statue of Anita Mui is only the third bronze statue featuring one of Hong Kong’s popular son or daughter. The other two bronze statues are the one of all-time legend Bruce Lee as well as popular Hong Kong cartoon character McDull (McDull’s Bronze Statue was unveiled on July 2012).

Taking a closer look at Anita Mui’s bronze statue, which has been designed by famous sculptor Professor Cao Chang’en, you will notice an engraved calligraphy saying “Daughter of Hong Kong Mui Yim Fong” at the bottom. This calligraphy has been designed and written by famous actor Andy Lau.

Besides the sculpture, you also can find Anita Mui’s plaque on Avenue of Stars. Unfortunately, they didn’t manage to get her hand imprint on the plaque before her pass-away.
