Live-Report: Olympian City x Playmobil 40th Anniversary Christmas Exhibition

Hong Kong’s shopping mall Olympian City is celebrating the Christmas season with a very special Playmobil 40th Anniversary Christmas Exhibition.

Although Playmobil is a very famous German toy line, unfortunately it is not as popular as Lego in Hong Kong and many people may not know it. Similar to Lego, it features human like figures in everyday themed series (firefighter, policemen, family, pirates, knights, etc.). Each Playmobil figure is around 7.5 cm tall and fun to play and collect.

I am always a big fan of Playmobil and I lose the track on calculating how much money I have spent on buying those cute figures and theme sets. There was a time that you still could find Playmobil in Toys”R”Us. But due to unknown reasons, Toys”R”Us stopped selling Playmobil for a long while until recent weeks.

Olympian City x Playmobil 40th Anniversary Christmas Exhibition

This year has been a very special year for Playmobil since it marks its 40th Anniversary (Is everything important created around 1974 ? It’s also Hello Kitty’s 40th Anniversary). It is the first time that a Hong Kong shopping mall is featuring the popular German toys in a special Exhibition.

When you enter the atrium of the Olympian City shopping mall you will find yourself enchanted into a Playmobil Christmas town.

You will encounter the typical German Christmas market (Weihnachtsmarkt) kind of booths with life-sized Playmobil figures standing in front of them. I was so regret that I didn’t take all of my original figures and make a picture next to those life-sized figures.

There are plenty of photo opportunities with enlarged versions of popular Playmobil figures including a German National Soccer Team player (which is carrying the number 13 – like legendary German soccer player Gerd Mueller and nowadays active player Thomas Mueller), police woman, mail delivery man, snowman, angel, fairy and of course Santa Clause.

In case you visit the Olympian City x special Playmobil 40th Anniversary Christmas Exhibition make sure to go outside of the shopping mall. There is a approx. 15 meters high Christmas tree featuring an outdoor rotating Christmas Sled Carousel with a Playmobil Santa Clause in front of it.

For all the toy collectors among you, there is also a special Playmobil pop-up store where you purchase different Playmobil toy lines as well as single figures from the current production line.
