The Avenue of Stars Hong Kong is similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the U.S.. In order to honor the achievements in the entertainment industry and have a permanent public monument, the Hong Kong government and Hong Kong Film Awards Association decided to build up Avenue of Stars.
Located right along the Victoria Harbor front in Tsim Sha Tsui, visitors can take a stroll along the Avenue of Stars which is celebrating the achievements and reputation to be the “Hollywood of the East”.
Statue of Hong Kong Film Awards is a 4.5-meter tall bronze sculpture which is located at the entrance of the Avenue of Stars. From here you will start your journey crossing over 100 years of Hong Kong cinematic history along the 440-meter long promenade.
Avenue of Stars is opened on April 27th 2004. Currently there are over 100 plaques honoring the celebrities, opera-stars, scriptwriters and directors of Hong Kong movies. Among them you will find such popular names like Bruce Lee, Jacky Chan, Sir Run Run Shaw, Chow Yun-Fat, Ann Hui, John Woo, Tsui Hark or Andy Lau.
Insider Tips: As you walk down the promenade you will find out that some plaques contain hand prints and autographs while 47 of them don’t. Because these stars have already deceased before the promenade was opened. But there are four famous and still-alive persons (Chow Yun-fat, Sir Run Run Shaw, Stephen Chow and Wong Kar Wai) don’t have hand print on their plaques and maybe they haven’t have time to come to leave their hand imprint yet.
If you pay close attention you will notice that the one who passed away with leaving the hand print has the metal “Avenue of Stars” logo on the plaque, while these four alive persons’ plaques remain empty.
When you walk along the Avenue of Stars, you will find lots of sculptures along the road, such as the statue of one of Hong Kong’s most popular and well-known Kung-Fu action star Bruce Lee as well as the sculptures presenting the scene of movie shooting. These are hotspots to take pictures of the beautiful skyline of Victoria Harbor.
On Avenue of Stars, you also will find a large replica of the Olympic Torch of the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing is permanently on display for those of you who are interested in the Olympic Games.
For those who are interested in movie memorabilia there are two stores along the promenade. One is dedicated to Bruce Lee and the other one to Jacky Chan. Both stores carry several unique movie memorabilia such as T-Shirts, mugs, posters, etc. So don’t miss the opportunity to check out the Bruce Lee and Jacky Chan store and get you piece of Hong Kong Movie memory.
This place is not only popular to take pictures and play around with the plaques of the movie stars. Be sure to take a rest and enjoy the amazing and stunning views towards Hong Kong Island and Victoria Harbor. At night you will be able to watch and enjoy the Symphony of Lights from one of the best vantage points.
Other sightseeing attractions in close distant include the Clock Tower, Star Ferry, Museum of Arts, Space Museum, Cultural Centre, Peninsula Hotel and if you are for shopping the Harbour City Mall and Sogo.
The Bottomline: The Avenue of Stars as well as the Symphony of Lights Show are Hong Kong Must-Go Attractions! The Location is not only popular among tourists and visitors. From time to time you will see young couples shooting their wedding pictures in front of the amazing skyline of Hong Kong. This place is one I highly recommend you to have a look at and enjoy.
