The Avenue of Stars, one of Hong Kong’s most popular and famous sightseeing attractions, will close for major repair and improvement works from October 8, 2015.

At present it seems that the redevelopment and improvement works will take quite some time (around 3 years) and it is expected that the “renovated” Avenue of Stars will be re-open at the end of 2018.

The current 440-meter stretch of the Avenue of Stars will be extended and will end in Hung Hom once the redevelopment and improvement works are completed. At the moment there are a food hub, film gallery and a performance venue planned of the newly added section. In addition, several dining outlets are planed to be added jut outside Hong Kong’s Museum of Art while the New World Centre (currently under construction) will add another hotel, mall and offices.

However, fans of Hong Kong movies don’t need to worry. During the improvement and redevelopment process there will be a chance to take a closer look at some of Hong Kong’s cinematographic history.

The statues on the Avenue of Stars will be temporarily relocated to the “Garden of Stars” in the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront Podium while the pedestrian subway leading to Exit J1 of the MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station will become the “Starry Gallery” featuring and displaying not only some information about the Avenue of Stars, but also about Hong Kong movies.

The “Garden of Stars” and “Starry Gallery” will be open to the public on November 15, 2015. We will be back soon with the updated information. Keep tuned !
