The best locations to watch Hong Kong fireworks

There are many different options to watch the fireworks display in the enjoyable way. The unbeatable option is to watch from the close vicinity of (along) Victoria Harbour on both sides and to watch on the harbour tours, which give you the best of the sound and visual effects.

Or watching from higher positions, such as the Victoria Peak and sky100 Observation deck, with an overview of the complete span of fireworks display. If you don’t like too much crowds, consider watching from the top-notch rooftop bars and restaurants or booking a hotel room with fantastic harbour view.

No matter which one you decide in the end, remember to prepare early in advance.

1. Top options – Along Victoria Harbour waterfront on both sides (close vicinity, free spots)

The best vantage points to enjoy the fireworks are right along Victoria Harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Admiralty as well as Wan Chai. The Hong Kong fireworks are always launched from barges on Victoria Harbour in front of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Staying closer to shooting spot to watch gives you an unbeatable visual shock.

Most people love to enjoy the fireworks from close distance and feel the bang overhead. Most of the following chosen locations are not only FOR FREE, but also the best front seat for watching fireworks. Having said that, be prepared that these locations along the harbour will be filled up quickly and will be VERY crowded.

11 Best locations to watch fireworks from Kowloon side along Victoria Harbour

Big bonus: Watching fireworks from Kowloon side will have Victoria Harbour’s night view and Hong Kong’s landmarks and skyline as background. Without doubt, it is the best option. But it is also more crowded than the Hong Kong Island.

TLDR: Conclusion and easy solution – Which one is the best location of all options?

All the above locations are the best selections in Hong Kong for watching fireworks display. Which one you should choose depends on your personal preferences.

  • If you would like to get the front-row view and watch for free, then staying close to Victoria Harbour waterfront between Central to Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island, or along Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. The best of all should be Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Tamar Park and Golden Bauhinia Square. At these locations you can maximize not only the visual impact when the fireworks exploding over your head, but also enjoy with the synchronized music.

Cons: However, be aware that these are the most popular spots, which means these are also the most crowded areas. In order to get a good spot, you need to get there hours ahead of the show.

  • If you love to enjoy it on Victoria Harbour with less crowds and no worries, booking a special fireworks harbour tour is a fantastic option. No more pressure on getting a good spot. Secure the front seat in advance and enjoy the fireworks leisurely.

Remember there are only a few boat tour operators offering fireworks harbour tour. Tickets are sold out quickly. Act fast.

Alternatively, booking the dinner offer from waterfront restaurants and hotels is another good option to avoid crowds.

  • If you prefer more private and relaxed environment to enjoy fireworks, then check out the best hotels with great fireworks views. Check out the fireworks schedule around the year and whether it will be during your stay in Hong Kong. Watching from hotel room is one-of-a-kind memory.

  • If you love to watch the fireworks coupled with Hong Kong’s amazing night city overviews, then consider to watch from higher locations, such as the Peak, sky100, rooftop bars and restaurants as well as Kowloon Peak. These locations are also great for photography.

Cons: The Victoria Peak and Kowloon Peak are several hundred meters above sea level. The clearance is very weather-dependent. Check the weather before heading to those places.

  • Special traffic arrangements are in effect before and after the firework Show. This includes closure (!) of roads and MTR Exits, suspension of Star Ferry services. Be prepared for a very large crowd. Try to plan your arrival way ahead of the schedule fireworks time, especially for those super hot spots.

  • Prepare an exit plan if you watch with crowds.
