The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center can easily be spotted from the Victoria Harbor front and the buildings architecture is easily associated with a unique architecture style similar to the opera in Sydney. The area outside marks and commemorates one of Hong Kong’s most recent historic events: the handover ceremony of June 30, 1997 where the former British colony was returned to the People Republic of China. The Golden Bauhinia statue commemorates the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as well as the historic handover procedure and is one of the most popular sightseeing places among Mainland Chinese visitors. Nearby is another interesting reunification monument bearing inscriptions of former PRC President Jiang Zemin’s calligraphy.

Noteworthy:If you are an early bird, you can attend the daily flag raising ceremony at the Golden Bauhinia square. Usually, it is held from 7:50am-8:03am. On each first of the month, this ceremony is extended and starts from 7:45am-8:13am. Due to changing weather this special attraction might be canceled due to bad weather conditions. How to Get to Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center & Bauhinia Square:

From TST:

The most convenient way is to take the Star Ferry from TST to Wan Chai. Turn right when exiting the Star Ferry terminal in Wan Chai and walk approx. 10 minutes. You can’t miss the Convention Center and the masses of tour buses with tourists for the Golden Bauhinia statue. Just follow the signs to the Convention Center.

With MTR:

Take the MTR to Wan Chai and exit through the A1 Exit. It’s about a 15 minutes foot walk and very easy to walk. Just follow the signs for the Convention and Exhibition Center which conveniently will lead you on the connecting overhead walkway and lead you through the lobby of Central Plaza.
