It seems to be another bitter news for all the passengers and travellers this summer. Besides fare increase of Hong Kong MTR starting from the 29th of June 2014, Hong Kong Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) announced an increase of its bus fares starting from July 6, 2014. Ticket prices will increase on average by 3.9%, which is lower than the 4.3% the bus operator has been asking for.

The last time Commuters and travellers had to cope with a bus fare increase was a year ago. Reasons that the KMB Company has been seeking an increase of their fares were the high operating cost, fluctuation in fuel prices as well as issues with cost efficiencies of bus routes. KMB run into a deficit of HK$ 43 million in 2012 and although KMB’s financial situation has been improving since the last fare increase to a deficit of HK$ 12 million, travellers and commuters have to take the bitter pill and cope with the latest fare increases from KMB as well as Hong Kong’s MTR.

As to the travellers in Hong Kong, buses may not be the first option for travelling. However, if your hotel is located on / close to Nathan Road (such as Jordan and Yau Ma Tei areas), taking KMB bus to travel to TST Star Ferry Pier or TST Promenade is more convenient than subway (MTR). If you leave in hotels without shuttle bus or nearby MTR stations, KMB bus is also an economical option.
