As one of the latest and popular landmarks in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel‘s future finally gets clear. Today, news has announced Hong Kong Observation Wheel will reopen in December 2017 along with the AIA The Great European Carnival. The former Swiss AEX Hong Kong Observation Wheel changed its name to AIA Hong Kong Observation Wheel.

Closure of Hong Kong Observation Wheel
Since its unexpected closure on the 28th of August 2017, the future of this observation wheel is always unclear.
The former operator Swiss AEX company lost in bidding on the land’s lease and had to end the business of the wheel by the end of August. Government said the new winner had better proposal on the usage of the land as well as more attractive ticket price for the wheel.
At first, Swiss AEX claimed that they would disassemble the wheel by October if they couldn’t make a deal with the new operator. After a round of trouble, the old and new operators of Hong Kong Observation Wheel finally reached a consensus. The new operator TECL company has purchased the ferries wheel from Swiss AEX.
Hong Kong Observation Wheel Will Reopen in December
The new operator TECL company has finished applying for a license to operate the wheel. They announced today to restore the Observation Wheel on the 21st of December 2017, one day before the AIA The Great European Carnival.

AIA The Great European Carnival Comes Back to Town
AIA The Great European Carnival has great success in the past three years. They have also announced and confirmed the opening date for the 2017/2018 AIA Great European Carnival. Due to the recent closure of Observation Wheel, people has already prepared for an AIA Carnival without the shining turning wheel as the background. It’s great that the process of operation license application took two months shorter than expected.
