What is Hong Kong Space Museum?

The museum consists of the East and the West Wing. The highlights are the popular Stanley Ho Space Theatre (planetarium) and the two thematic exhibition halls of space science and astronomy.

In fact, the planetarium was the first local planetarium in Hong Kong. The museum also became the first one to possess an OMNIMAX film projector with a fully automatic control system in the eastern hemisphere. There are different scientific documentaries on show every week.

Architecture of the Space Museum

Besides being conveniently located in one of the major sightseeing hotspots and overlooking Victoria Harbour, the museum became a landmark itself.

The architecture and design is rather unique. Planned and built in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the museum represents the design and architecture of that time. The clean, white, oval and egg-shaped exterior has the typical futuristic touch of the 1980s.

In case you don’t know, the pineapple bun is a popular local staple food. Throughout the city you can find it in almost every bakery. Needless to say that the easy recognisable symbol became one of the most famous and outstanding architecture landmarks of the city.
