When is 2024 Hong Kong Chinese New Year Raceday?
The annual CNY Raceday is always on the third day of Chinese Lunar calendar. Thus, the 2024 Chinese New Year Raceday is on the 12th of February 2024 in Sha Tin Racecourse. The event starts at 11:15 am.
Programme and highlights of 2024 Hong Kong Chinese New Year Raceday
The Chinese New Year Raceday will be at the Sha Tin Racecourse (New Territories). Sha Tin Racecourse is usually for day race while Happy Valley Racecourse is for night race. Having said that, it is one of the most popular racing events of the year.
The 2024 Hong Kong Chinese New Year Raceday will feature a full program of traditional and colorful festivities, including grand opening show, lion dance performances, Feng Shui master’s fortune tips, cultural and entertainment performances and of course horse races. It is one of the traditional way to celebrate Chinese New Year and hope for some good luck.
Besides top horse races, every year’s Chinese New Year Raceday also includes limited merchandise, free entry gift, lucky draw as well as Feng Shui Master giving advices.

Annual Top horse races
There usually are 10 races from 1400M to 2000M, including “Chinese New Year Cup” (1400M), on the 2024 CNY Raceday. Visitors will have chances to meet some superstar horses and top-class jockeys.

As always, for important horse race event, there will be a free gift for visitors. For the 2024 Chinese New Year Race Day, visitors will get a “Fortune Pen” (while stocks last) and an instant win card. The top prize is a 24k gold foil ornament of horse racing.

“The Sha Tin Racecourse opens its gate around noon and last until 6:00pm. The first actual horse race starts around 12:30pm at the Chinese New Year Raceday. If you would like to get a free entrance gift, be sure to be there before the 5th race.”

Get good luck at “Feng Shui Formation”
Every year, Jockey Club will invite the famous local Feng Shui Master giving some advices during the special Fortune Tips session.
This year, Jockey Club arranges displays of cherry blossom forest for brining good luck to all the racegoers.

New Year’s variety Show Extravaganza
Besides the action-packed horse races and betting, the Chinese New Year Raceday has also plenty of live entertainment. To start the Year of the Dragon in an auspicious way, the HK jockey Club invited local stars such as e.g. Bowie Woo, Nancy Sit and James Ng. Enjoy their live shows, quizzes and performances. And if this is not enough, there are plenty of traditional performances such as festive lion dances and jockeys coming to meet and greet.

Every year, Jockey Club will invite the popular starts to celebrate with everyone. This year the local music group “Midlife, Sing & Shine” will join and perform their hit songs to share the joy of Chinese New Year.

Get Good luck at Photo Hotspots
Make sure to take your time and explore the trackside along the racecourses. There are plenty of instagrammable photo hotspots. Visit e.g. the decorated Feng Shui Avenue, Windmills and Blossom Lane, snap some photos, spin the fortune windmill and get some good luck ahead of the race.

CNY Float
One highlight of the CNY celebrations is the International New Year Night Parade. The parade takes place on the first day of Chinese New Year and is one of the must-see activities.
Having said that the Hong Kong Jockey Club usually participates at this annual event and designs a special float. The float goes on display after the parade and can be admired at the Chinese New Year Raceday at the Sha Tin Racecourse on February 12, 2024. The beautiful designed float with horses, flowers and auspicious symbols is usually one of the selfie hotspots. Make sure to take some photos for Instagram and Facebook and ring in the Year of the Dragon with some good luck.

Free shuttle bus arrangement
From 10:00am to 3:00pm on the Raceday (February 12, 2024), the Hong Kong Jockey Club will arrange a free shuttle bus service from Wong Tai Sin MTR station directly to Sha Tin Race Course.
It’s a very convenient option for those who plan to visit Wong Tai Sin Temple for Chinese New Year.
The free shuttle bus service is located at Exit D2, Wong Tai Sin MTR Station (Ching Tak Street).

Chinese New Year Cup on Chinese New Year Raceday
The Chinese New Year Raceday being considered as one of the most important horse-racing events is definitely not only because the free gifts and pop singers. On this day, there will be a traditional race “Chinese New Year Cup” with the superstar horses.
The Chinese New Year Cup is a race established for the Chinese New Year since 1998. It is contested by Class 1 runners on the 1400m race. In the past, there were many top-class jockeys such as C. Schofield (with Dundonnell), S. Clipperton (with Invincible Dragon), J. Moreira (with What Else but you and Thewizardofoz) wining this race.
Admission & Ticketing :
– Entrance fee at the Sha Tin Racecourse venue is HK$ 10.
– Foreign visitors can experience a one-of-kind horse-racing experience within the Members’ Enclosure of the Hong Kong Jockey Club by purchasing the special Tourist Badge Option for HK$ 130 (The tourist promotion applies only to tourist).
