April 1st is approaching and although many people are looking forward to participate in April Fool’s Day, Hong Kong and Leslie Cheung fans have sadness in their hearts. On April 1st, 2003 one of Hong Kong’s legendary superstar committed suicide which shocked fans as well as film and music industry.
Although 10 years have been passed, Leslie Cheung remains in the hearts of his fans. All-time favorite songs, legendary movie blockbusters and TV plays are treasured by young and old. In the past 10 years, fans have been organizing special events such as the popular Leslie Cheung Memorial Concerts in front at the Hong Kong Cultural Center in Victoria Harbor to commemorate one of Hong Kong’s most iconic superstars.
Miss You Much Leslie – Concert and Memorial Night
Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Leslie Cheung death, his former manager Florence Chan organized the “Miss You Much Leslie – Concert and Memorial Night” in Hong Kong Coliseum on the 31st of March and the 1st of April. Many friends of Leslie Cheung like Jacky Cheung, Julian Cheung, Vivian Chow, Kelly Chen, Joey Yung etc. will be invited to the concert to share their love and memory about Leslie. Love Journey Leslie Cheung 10th Anniversary Commemorative Concert 2013
In order not to collide with other Leslie Cheung Memorial Events, the “Love Journey Leslie Cheung 10th Anniversary Commemorative Concert 2013” (organized by Red Mission Limited) will take place at 8:00pm on April 2nd, 2013. The Commemorative Concert will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Center Concert Hall. Tickets are available for HK$ 250 – 300 and can be purchased through URBTIX.
Miss You Much Leslie Exhibition – Time Squre
Fans also have the chance to visit the “Miss You Much Leslie Exhibition” in and at the Times Square Shopping Mall in Hong Kong. The “Miss You Much Leslie – Exhibition” will be on display from March 29 to May 1st, 2013 and is free of charge. The exhibition is centered around Leslie Cheung’s music, stage performances and films and divided into three zones.
Highlights of the “Miss You Much Leslie Exhibition” includes over 1 million paper cranes that have been sent in by Leslie Cheung’s fans from all over the world to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his passing (2/F Times Square), a 5 meter high half –length statue of Leslie Cheung, several costumes worn by Leslie Cheung, video and music displays as well as 1:1 statues of Leslie Cheung for the first time ever.
The Open Piazza in front of the Times Square Shopping mall will transform to a mini movie theater showing Leslie Cheung’s legendary films as well as interview clips of renowned artistes and directors. Fans can admire movie posters and books from the earlier days of his career.
