If one say Hong Kong Disneyland is the dreamland for kids and adults, then staying in one of the Hong Kong Disney hotels is definitely an extra bonus. As one of the most popular theme parks in town, there are three Hong Kong Disney hotels in Hong Kong Disneyland. The first one is Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, opened in September 2005 along with the theme park. The 2nd one is Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, which was opened in December 2005. The latest hotel Disney Explorers Lodge opened in April 2017.

Why staying in Hong Kong Disneyland hotels – Benefits and advantages

Planning a family trip to Disneyland can be quite exhausting. Is it necessary to stay in the Disney hotels? What are the benefits? Are there any other hotels near Hong Kong Disneyland?

Although Hong Kong Disneyland is not as big as its counterparts in the USA, it still have 7 theme parks now. There is plenty to plan, see and do. One day, even staying for the complete day, is only sufficient for a superficial visit and can only cover parts of the park. So staying in one of the Hong Kong Disney hotels brings lots of other benefits.

1) A convenient choice for big travel/family group

Most of the hotel rooms in Hong Kong can only accommodate a maximum of 3 persons while Hong Kong Disneyland hotels allow 4 persons per room. Especially for those who travel with the whole family and kids, or are huge fans of Disneyland, staying at the Hong Kong Disney hotels can be considered as adding the icing on a cake. It is a must for many fans to experience the full Disney Magic.

2) Hotel guests can have priority pass to save time

As a hotel guest, you will be entitled with a fast pass for all the lines in the Disney resorts. It will save you tons of trouble and time.

3) No worry for fireworks and night parade

Besides, if you stay for the fireworks and Paint The Night Parade at night, imagine how many people will travel together on public transport after the show. Staying in Disney hotels saves you from the fight with the crowds for a place in the train traveling back all over the city to your accommodation.

4) Can start late and take rest easily if tired

Hong Kong Disneyland is located outside the city center and it takes one hour to travel from downtown. If you would like to beat all the tourists before opening, feed your kids with breakfast before entering, you may have to start very early in the morning. Staying in one of the Hong Kong Disneyland hotels leaves you sufficient time for a relaxed breakfast and getting on the free shuttle bus to the entrance of the resort.

Traveling with young kids has always an unexpected situation. You can easily get back to the hotel to change clothes or take a shower if needed. Just remember to keep your ticket for re-entering.

5) Free gifts, souvenirs and surprise

If the guests check in on the birthday month or in the honeymoon, the Disney hotels will present a small towel cake, wishing card and badge as gifts.

All the guests can redeem two gift cards for memory when checking out. Some of the amenities from your room can be kept as souvenirs.

6) Early check in and free luggage store service

The Disney hotels have a check-out time around 11:00am and check-in time at 3:00pm. However, early check-in is allowed and the guests can drop the luggages to the front desk and start exploring the theme park.

At the day of check-out, guests can store the luggages in the hotel for free and enjoy the rest of the day in the park.

7) Free Package Express Service

Don’t want to carry the heavy shopping bags in the park all day long? No problem. The hotel staying guests can have their goodies directly delivered back to the hotel’s bell desk.

8) Extra discount for Disney Premier Access

The Disney Premier Access allows you enjoy priority access to most popular attractions. The Disney hotels in-house guests can enjoy 30% off when purchasing the access.

  • If the Hong Kong Disney Hotels are over your budgets, the following hotel options are in the close vicinity of Hong Kong Disneyland:

If all you want is only to have a quick look at Disneyland and hurry back to the downtown area, you may consider staying in other hotels. You can check the following review to find out suitable location and better hotel options.

Comparison of 3 Hong Kong Disneyland hotels:
Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel vs. Disney’s Hollywood Hotel vs. Disney Explorers Lodge

All three Disney hotels are located near the entrance of the park. All of them have different designs and prices. It is a bit confusing to decide which one you should choose. Let’s compare them step by step.

Hotel Location and Shuttle Service

Apparently, location is the priority of choosing Disney hotels. All three Disney hotels are located near the main entrance of Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is a little bit closer to the entrance than the other two hotels (see the map below).

All hotels provide 24-hour free shuttle bus service, which leaves every 10-20min (from 6:00am to 1:00am). Between 1:00am till 6:00am, hotels will send out shuttle bus on request. You can call 35105000 asking for service during this period.

The shuttle bus will start from Disneyland Hotel, pass Disney Explorers Lodge, stop at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel (the blue line on map) and then drive to the entrance of the resort (the red line on map). However, since all the shuttle buses are big coaches, no need to worry the buses will be full if you stay in Hollywood Hotel or Disney Explorers Lodge.

Alternatively, you can easily take a few minute walk to the entrance which is a nice stroll if it is not too hot and humid.

Hotel Theme and Style

Some may consider Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is better since it is a 5-star hotel while Disney’s Hollywood Hotel and Disney Explorers Lodge are 4-star hotels. There is not much difference in term of service between these three hotels. Which one fitting you better depends on what your princess fantasy or Disneyland dream is about.

Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is a 4-star hotel and is a little bit further away from the park entrance. However, it is bigger than Disneyland Hotel, providing 600 rooms on 8 floors.

Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is decorated with a Hollywood-like theme as its name implies. Movie buffs, Hollywood fans as well as car lovers will love the manifold decorations and photos opportunities around this hotel.

Stepping inside you will encounter with a combination of the golden era of Hollywood’s 1930s and 1940s mixed with the Disney Magic. The exterior of the hotel is held in a classic and elegant Art Deco style with the iconic Mickey’s head.

I would call it a Mickey-themed hotel rather than Hollywood hotel. Hotel logo, the walls, the pillars, the lobby, the restaurants, the elevators, the tables and chairs, you can easily find Mickey everywhere in the hotel.

Watch out for the big TV and comfort sofa in the lobby. It plays Mickey’s cartoon all day long that you hardly can drive your kids away once they sit down.

The Victorian-themed Disneyland Hotel is a 5-star hotel and the theme park’s flagship hotel with about 400 rooms spanning over 6 floors. It looks like a huge palace and fulfils the dream of fairy tale lovers.

Not only the outside but also everything inside of the hotel brings you back to early 1900s. The elegant Victorian-style interior and decorations made the guests feel like walking into a European castle.

A huge chandelier is hanging on the 4-floor high ceiling and stairs are winded up to the 4th floor. Since the Disney movie “Frozen” became extremely popular among girls, you can see kids standing on the stairs and singing “Let It Go”.

If you are lucky, you may meet some of those princesses in the lobby and signing names for the fans.

Don’t miss the most popular photo spots – the Mickey and Minnie statues. You can find their statues in Hollywood Hotel as well.

The 4-star hotel Disney Explorers Lodge hotel is the largest hotel of the three. As to its name, you already can guess what the theme is about. The hotel is designed to celebrate the golden age of exploration in the early 1920s with 750 rooms on 7 floors. Like its lodge Latin motto of “ad explorare et somniare” (means “to explore and dream”), it aims to inspire the guests exploring and enjoying the different culture of the world.

Not only the inside but also every wing of the Disney Explorers Lodge has featured to four themed gardens: Asia, Oceania, South America and Africa. Each garden is named after the characters and stories from Disney movies: Hathi JR. Garden (The Jungle Book), Little Squirt Garden (Finding Nemo), Kevin Garden (Up) and Rafiki Garden (Lion King).

Hotel Rooms and Price

All three Disney hotels sit next to the ocean and provide sea-view room type (with/without balcony), which are more spacious compared with other hotels in Hong Kong.

Most of the hotels in Hong Kong allow only a maximum of 3 persons (adults + children) per room. However, since Disneyland is a place for family activity, all the Disney hotels have rooms for 4 persons (two double beds in one room).

Last but not least, all three Disney hotels offer free wi-fi access in all of their guest rooms, hotel lobby and dining locations. All the Disney hotels have check-in at 15:00 and request check-out at 11:00am. However, all in-house guests can enjoy free luggage store service after check-in/check-out.

The rooms of Disney’s Hollywood remains its classic, elegant but modern design. The rooms are equipped with all the necessary amenities, such as mini bar, bathroom, hairdryer, in-room safe, flat-screen TV, etc..

Get ready for the “WOW” surprise once stepping in the rooms because all the rooms are completely filled with Mickey elements. It’s like a Mickey-themed rooms and Mickey is on the wall, the carpet, the bed as well as the table.

Disney’s Hollywood Hotel offers three types of hotel rooms: Standard, “Mickey and Friends” Deluxe and “Mickey and Friends” Seaview. The room sizes are around 29m², which is the smallest of the three. Hotel prices range from HK$ 2,400 to 3,700 per night, which could be considered as the budget option out of the three Disney hotels and easily can accommodate a family of four.

Don’t ignore the lovely towel animals on the bed. If it happens to be your birthday during your stay, you will also find a lovely towel birthday cake on the table with a sweet birthday card.

Don’t forget the bathrooms amenities, slippers and bathrobes, which are all featured with Mickey’s iconic head.

Bathroom of Disney's Hollywood Hotel

Mickey Mouse is also in the bathroom

Same with its architectural style, the hotel rooms are designed accordingly to the Victorian and Snow White theme. It wouldn’t be Disney if the Disney magic wouldn’t be spilled everywhere! The rooms are equipped with all the necessary amenities, such as mini bar, bathroom, hair dryer, in-room safe, flat-screen TV, etc..

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel provides rooms from Standard, Deluxe, Kingdom Club (with/without seaview and balcony). Considering Hong Kong’s standard hotel rooms (with their limited space), the room sizes (34m² – 38m²) of the Hong Kong Disneyland are actually quite big and spacious. It is one of the few hotels, which truly can accommodate a larger family with 2-3 kids and/or families traveling with a nanny. Hotel prices range from HK$ 3,200 to 5,000 depending on the room type (seaview, balcony etc.).

Besides normal room, Disneyland Hotel also have three types of suite: Kingdom Club Standard Suite, Cinderella Suite and Frozen Suite. The suite size is 77m² and the price starts from HK$ 7,990.

When entering in your room, don’t forget to look for the lovely towel animals placing on the beds. Same as Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, if you happened to spend birthday in the hotel, you will get a nice birthday card and birthday towel cake as presents.

The cuteness doesn’t stop at the room amenities and the small details. The toiletries feature the 7 dwarfs and even mini room slippers and bathrobes for the little ones are taken care of.

Same as its motto, the hotel rooms are designed accordingly to the adventurers’ fantasy, equipped with all the necessary amenities. Unlike the other two hotels full of cute elements, the rooms of Disney Explorers Lodge have more vintage feeling.

There are four types of rooms: Standard, Deluxe, Seaview and Seaview with balcony with the average room size 34m²-36m². Hotel prices range from HK$ 2,300 to 3,100 depending on the room type (seaview, balcony etc.).

Restaurants and Dining with Disney Characters

Disneyland is located far from the downtown area. It means if you stay in the Disney hotels, restaurants of the hotels or inside the park are the only dining options.

No need to worry about starving since all the hotels have plenty of restaurants that provide a one-stop solution to their guests. Besides, all three Disney hotels have Disney-themed restaurants where you can enjoy your meal with Disney’s characters.

The most popular are Enchanted Garden and Dragon Wind, where you can not only get themed food, but also meet the adorable Disney characters.

If you are a huge fan of Disneyland, you will love Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel’s arrangements the most. This hotel has four dining options (Crystal Lotus, Enchanted Garden Restaurant, Walt’s Café and Sea Breeze Bar) ranging from Chinese to European cuisines. The other two options Grand Salon and Kingdom Club Level have been already closed.

One of the highlights (also my favourite moment of a day) of the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is to have buffet in the Enchanted Garden Restaurant. Why? Because you can meet your favourite Disney characters.

Enchanted Garden – Dine with Disney characters

The Enchanted Garden serves breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet,  covering both Asian (Chinese) and Western food. Be prepared that Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald and Daisy will walk to you, hug you and take a photo with you while you are having your meal. The most popular buffet is the breakfast session. There is no better way to start a wonderful day in Disneyland.

If it happens to be your birthday, you will get a special birthday badge and greeting from all the characters. They will delight you first and wish you a Happy Birthday.

The hotel also arranges professional photographer to take picture for you in case you forget your camera or would like to have a framed picture or keychain as souvenir.

Dining with Mickey and Minnie

If you decide to have buffet in Enchanted Garden, it’s better to book when you book the hotel because it’s always fully booked. Although the buffet is quite pricey (start from HK$ 358/breakfast, HK$ 498/lunch to HK$ 688-1028/dinner) and maybe does not offer anything too special, it is no doubt a great experience for kids.

The breakfast buffer starts everyday 7:30 till 11:00. There are two sessions: 7:30-9:00 and 9:30-11:00. You need to inform the hotel which session you would like to join. Lunch starts from 12:00 till 16:30 with two sessions as well.

The dinner buffer lasts till 22:00 (weekdays) and 22:30 (weekends). So it is still possible to have dinner after the Disneyland fireworks. Remember to keep an eye on the booking status from their official site (check here).

Be aware that the Disney Friends Dim Sum needs to be ordered 24 hours prior to your visit.

Other dining options

Besides Enchanted Garden and Crystal Lotus, Disneyland Hotel also serves cute gourmet in Walt’s Cafe.

Although every Disney restaurant is quite pricey, I would like to point out Walt’s Café to all of you who might want to save a few dollars. The Walt Café can be a good choice to grab something to eat and save for souvenirs.

After three-year upgrading, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel now has only two dining options in this hotel: The Archivist and Ink & Plate.

Dining in the newly renovated Ink & Plate

The biggest restaurant Chef Mickey has been upgraded to the new Ink & Paint. It now offers international buffet serving breakfast, lunch and dinner from morning to night (7:30 – 22:00). The new restaurant design is a tribute to the legendary Ink & Paint Department and decorated with delightful Disney characters on the wall.

All the tableware and food are also full of colors. As the old Chef Mickey, the Mickey and Disney related elements are also included in the menu.

If you have visited or are looking the Chef Mickey of Disney’s Hollywood before, just for your reference, the Chef Mickey has been permanently closed and replaced by Ink & Plate. So you cannot meed the chef Mickey and sous chef Donald anymore.

Shopping and Souvenir Options

Who can visit Disneyland and leave with empty hands? If you don’t want to waste your precious time on shopping in Disneyland park or you are not satisfied on shopping options, all the three Disney hotels have in-hotel souvenir stores. All of them open from 9:00 to 23:00 daily.

The souvenir store in Disney’s Hollywood is called “Celebrity Gifts”. It is located right opposite The Archivist and next to the lobby entrance. The selections are a little bit less than “Kingdom Gifts” in Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.

Use official promotion and benefits

Some insider tips have been pointed out in the previous discussion. You should take advantage of them when booking one of the Hong Kong Disneyland hotels. In addition, check the official website for the current prices and if there are special early bird promotions.

Use hotel price comparing website wisely

I would highly recommend checking hotel rates at the famous hotel booking sites, such as Agoda.com, etc.. It saves tons of time on comparing the prices on different sites by only one click. Most of the time you will have a good chance to score a lower price than booking directly from Disneyland.

In case you decide to stay in the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel for more than one night, you might want to take a closer look at the annual membership offers which entitle you for enjoying certain percentage discounts or upgrade offers.

If the prices for the Hong Kong Disney hotels are way above your budgets, there are plenty of other hotels nearby. The location will not be as convenient as staying close to the park. However, it may save you a bit of money that you can spend on souvenirs or other sightseeing attractions during your stay.

Tips About Disney’s Hollywood Hotel

Insider Tip 1:

A unique thing about Disney’s Hollywood is that no extra room service available. Especially, if you travel with small kids who need an extra or early rest and you don’t want or simply cannot leave them alone, it is always a nice option to order some food to your room.

So be prepared and use the small refrigerator wisely to stock up with some food from outside (which is also a good option to save some money).

Insider Tip 2:

Some hotel rooms offer not only the spectacular views of Lantau Island and its surrounding, but also the great views of the nightly fireworks show. So in case you and your kids are tired and need a rest, you still be able to enjoy the spectacular fireworks shows from the convenience of your room. The hotel has a special in-house fireworks channel on TV where you can listen to the accompanied music of the fireworks display.

Insider Tip 3:

If you also would like to enjoy the services like Enchanted Garden, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or other restaurants in Disneyland Hotel, it is still possible to make a reservation with them no matter which hotel you stay. These three hotels are just few steps away from each other anyway.

Tips About Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel

Insider Tip 1:

In case you would like to stay in this hotel, I would recommend securing your booking at least 1-2 months ahead of your planned visit. Due to its location and popularity, it gets booked out pretty fast.

Insider Tip 2:

In case you are traveling with a larger group and need more than one room and/or are opting to book one of the Kingdom Club Rooms, you might want to take a closer look at the Magic Access membership. In the past, the Platinum Membership gave you a choice on either enjoying a certain percentage off of the room rate or paying a rate for a guaranteed upgrade to the Kingdom Club Room.

However, keep in mind that rules will change from time to time. It seems that at present only a certain percentage of the hotel room rate can be applied and it is best to double-check with their reservation line. Having said that, it makes sense even for short-time visitors to obtain the annual passes. Simply do the math and see if you can benefit from the savings.

Tips About Disney Explorers Lodge

Insider Tip 1:

Since it is the last opened Disney hotel, the facilities in Disney Explorers Lodge is relatively newer compared with the other two. It is also the cheapest one among the three. If you decide to stay in one of the Disneyland hotels, why not stay here.

Insider Tip 2:

Disney Explorers Lodges doesn’t have as many indoor entertainment zones as other two Disney hotels for kids. But guests can enjoy the all facilities in all the hotels.
