One of Hong Kong’s most popular sight-seeing attraction finally finished its revamping. The famous Avenue of Stars reopens on January 31, 2019. Just right in time to welcome the “Year of the Pig” and enjoy the Chinese New Year fireworks display.

Avenue of Stars Reopens

After three years of renovation, the Avenue of Stars finally opens to the public again. Highlights of the redesigned Avenue of Stars

At the moment you can enjoy 107 handprints of TV, movie and music superstars. Soon there will be 9 new handprints added to the Avenue of Stars. These will include the winners of the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress. So, make sure to come back and check them out as well.

Each handprint feature new designs. They are not located on the ground anymore. Contrary to the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hong Kong’s handprints are now relocated to wooden handrails.

You can also take a closer look of each celebrity by scanning the QR code on each plaque. You will get a brief overview, biography and film footage of the superstar. As a visitor you might not be so familiar with all the Asian actors, singers and superstars and the QR codes are a great opportunity to get to know more about Hong Kong’s celebrities and why Hong Kong is also known as the Hollywood of the East.

Avenue of Stars Statues

Another highlight of the revitalised Avenue of Stars are the statues. Very often I get asked “Where is the Bruce Lee statue”? It is located right on the Avenue of Stars at the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront promenade. Also, you can enjoy the HKFAA statue, superstar Anita Mui and Hong Kong’s most famous cartoon character McDull.

The statues have been relocated and decorated with flowing-water features. Maybe you remember Bruce Lee’s famous quote “Be like water”. Besides, they are now better placed to take selfies. However, the best part is that you can even interact and even take pictures with the superstars. The Augmented Reality (AR) technology makes it possible.

Outdoor seating, mobile carts and gift shop

The renewed Avenue of Stars feature plenty of custom designed outdoor seating areas. Now you can enjoy not only Hong Kong’s rich film and movie history, but also take a break and soak in the fantastic views of Victoria Harbour.
