The Whampoa World shopping mall is one-of-a-kind and is quite unique. When you arrive at this shopping mall centre you might feel amazed or even puzzled why there is a luxury cruise ship between the residential areas of Hung Hom. As a matter of fact, the luxury cruise ship is part of the shopping mall and therefore quite an attraction itself (although it’s reconstructed with concrete). The design of the shopping mall is somehow a tribute to the former Hung Hom dry dock No.1 of Whampoa Garden and reminiscence the old times. This is even more true after the Hung Hom Ferry Pier was shut down awhile ago (please refer to our post for more information about the last days of the Hung Hom Ferry Pier).

With more than 1.4 million square feet, Whampoa World shopping complex is one of the largest on the Kowloon side. The design of this shopping mall center is a unique combination of different themed worlds. The themed worlds are Whampoa Gourmet Place, Fashion World, Treasure World, Home World, Amazing World and Pebbles World. As the names already indicate, the different worlds offer a vast variety of fashion (Esprit, G2000, Bread N Butter, H20, Nike, etc.), dining, accessories, electronics (CD Warehosue, HMV, etc.) and entertainment. More than 300 shops, restaurants and stores can be found in the Whampoa Worlds as well as Hong Kong’s first bowling alley (Thunderbowl), a Billiard House, a gym (Jumpin Gym USA) and a movie theater. The four different “decks” of The Whampoa houses a Jusco department store, Modern Beauty Salon, and the Sportful Garden Restaurant. A Game Station and the Spotlight Recreation Club can be found on the lower “decks”.
