Although Hong Kong’s Outlet Stores developed in the recent years, it is still an adventure or as Forrest Gump would put it: “It’s like a box of chocolate. You never know what you get”. Basically, you never know in advance what is on sale, if they have your sizes and how big the selection is. Due to these facts there is a chance that you might get disappointed – even in the big Factory Outlet Center such as the Citygate Outlets.
Not All The Outlets are Real Factory Outlet Stores !
There are literally hundreds of so-called Outlet Stores in Hong Kong. Some websites list all these so-called Outlets giving shoppers and tourists a wrong perception about the Factory Outlet market in Hong Kong.
Don’t get too excited since most of them are small mom-and-pa kind of stores and can hardly be distinguished from other small boutiques and fashion stores except having the name/word “Outlet” over their store entrance. Prices are seldom cheaper than other stores and as a matter of fact, they are not really “Factory Outlets” in the original sense or meaning. Usually, as a customer you expect to get brand name products or items at discounted prices in an Outlet or Factory Store.
By definition an Outlet Store or Factory Outlet is a retail store which provides off-season, end-of-season, irregular or sometimes so called overrun merchandise of a certain manufacturer or brand to customers at a lower price. Many small business owners are aware that fashion-savvy shoppers get crazy for discounted items of famous international brands and adapted the term “Outlet” in their shop name simply to attract more shoppers/tourists and generate more sales and income.
Store named Outlet But not a Real Outlet Store

Different outlet stores are focusing on different brands and items. All of the below listed outlet stores are selling authentic products. Cheaper prices result mainly due to the fact that the stores sell off-season collections and/or sizes and color which have been hard to sell in the Hong Kong market.
Some of the items are off-season collection from overseas markets which you will not even find in their own chain stores in Hong Kong.

Located in Tung Chung (Lantau Island) Citygate Outlets is close to Hong Kong International Airport (just approx. 10 min away) and is very appealing for passengers who plan their Stop-Over Stay in Hong Kong. Besides, Citygate Outlets is also near the attractions “Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car“, “Big Buddha“, “Ngong Ping Village” as well as “Po Lin Monastery” and makes it a good shopping option after a day-trip in Ngong Ping.
China Hong Kong City – In-Town Outlets [Go Back]
The China Hong Kong Outlets is conveniently located at the end of the Harbour City mall in TST and offers year round discount up to 70%. Famous international brands include Miss Sixty, Kappa, Esprit, Baleno, G2000, Mirabell, Marathon Sports, Tonino Lamborghini, LaFuma, Tie Rack and many more. Near China Hong Kong Outlets you also can find many shopping options of the flagship stores of LV, Gucci, Chanel etc. and attractions such as Avenue of Stars, Star Ferry and the famous Victoria Harbour.
Esprit Factory Outlet Stores [Go Back]
The Esprit Group operates five Esprit Factory Outlet Stores in Hong Kong and and one in Macau. From all the Hong Kong Esprit Outlet stores only three are located in a convenient location for short-time visitors (Tism Sha Tsui, Mongkok and Tung Chung). You will have chance to get last season items with only 40-50% of retail price.
Kwun Tong Factory Outlets [Go Back]
Off the beaten tourist tracks, Kwun Tong is home to many factories and warehouses. The area of Kwun Tong is one of the major industrial areas in Hong Kong and hardily attracts tourists. Located close to the apm shopping mall several Factory Outlet stores including Initial, New Balance, Adidas, Nike, Nikko and Converse settled in the Kwun Tong area.
