Hong Kong WinterFest 2024 by Hong Kong Tourism Board

Hong Kong WinterFest has been an annual event organized by Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB). For 2024, it will start from the November 22, 2024 to January 1, 2025.

Besides the annual giant glowing Christmas Xmas tree installation and sparkling Christmas Town at West Kowloon Cultural District, this year Hong Kong will also have winter harbourfront fireworks on the selective dates for the first time.

It is also expected to engage a Xmas-themed “A Symphony of Lights” show as well as some holiday-themed lighting installations in Tarmar Park and Central Promenade.

#1. Christmas Town and giant Christmas Tree at West Kowloon Cultural District

Every year, a LED enlighten Christmas tree will stand on Statue Square, the center of the city and accompany the lightening skyscrapers around. However, this year the location changed to Kowloon.

At West Kowloon District, a Christmas Town with a giant Xmas tree and other decorations add a special holiday atmosphere to this international art and culture hub.

The Christmas Town invites visitors to an exploration of various Christmas settings full of fun. Besides, visitors can meet Santa Claus in person, enjoy live music performance as well as join some handcrafty workshops.

#2. Winter Harbourfront Fireworks

2024 Christmas Celebrations:
Lighting Installations and Illuminations

The magic of Hong Kong’s Christmas always starts with illuminating decorations along Victoria Harbour. Usually, buildings will be lit up from the mid of November followed by the major shopping malls’ spectacular and creative displays. The highest building ICC will upgrade its nightly Light & Music Show with Xmas scenes.

The best place to enjoy Christmas illumination is without a doubt along the Victoria Harbour. When all the skyscrapers are decorated with Xmas lighting, Victoria Harbour will add a layer of sparkling color.

Highlight: Citywide Christmas Lights, Illuminations and Displays

The annual citywide Christmas display and illuminations are another highlight of Hong Kong Christmas events. Usually the first skyscrapers start decorating by the end of October / beginning of November (just right after Halloween).

As always, the first lighting installation lit up from the end of November 2024 at East Tsim Sha Tsui. Along the harbour, it includes Tsim Sha Tsui Center, Empire Center, Wing On Plaza, Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel, Royal Garden Hong Kong, Regal Kowloon Hotel, New Word Millennium, South Seas Center as well as InterContinental Grand Standford Hotel. They have switched the Xmas lighting together for the last 41 years.

This year the East TST Xmas illumination will last between 6:00pm till 11:00pm starting from November 28 2024 to January 2, 2025. It is one of the most popular locations for enjoying glittering illuminations. After the New Year, the light installation will switch to the theme of Chinese New Year immediately.

Mody road in East TST is another highlight photo spot with panda lighting. Don’t miss the Royal Garden hotel on the corner with 38 giant snowflakes.

Pandastic Christmas Light Show on Tsim Sha Tsui Center and Empire Center

This year, the 4000 sqm LED screen of Tsim Sha Tsui Center and Empire Center will present “Pandastic Christmas” light show to celebrate the arrival of two pandas as well as the two new-born panda babies.

From now on, all the major skyscrapers, shopping malls and landmarks will gradually put up special designed light installations (e.g. China Hong Kong City, Sino Plaza, Bank of China, HSBC, etc.) by the end of November.

Best way to enjoy: Make sure to take a stroll along Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront promenade. Since most of the skyscrapers are on Hong Kong Island, it is one of the best location to enjoy the changes of Hong Kong’s skyline during the festive season.

Another convenient way is to enjoy the lighting decorations from “Open-top Bus Tour“. It offers an one-hour tour on the open-top bus throughout Tsim Sha Tsui East.

You also can enjoy the illuminated skyscraper on Hong Kong Island. From Central, Wanchai, Admiralty to Causeway Bay, along the Victoria Harbour, there are many buildings decorated with Christmas-themed lights.

Giant Crystal Christmas Tree in Central

Besides the East Tsim Sha Tsui, there are some additional Christmas decorations in Central district on Hong Kong Island. Between The Murray hotel and Bank of China Tower stands an illuminated giant white Christmas tree. It is at the end of the staircase decorated with star-shape LED lights.

If you plan to visit the Peak Tram and walk from Queen’s Road Central toward Peak Tram Lower Terminus, you can stop by to take a look of the illuminated displays.

ICC Light & Music Show

Hong Kong’s tallest building, the International Commerce Center (ICC), has a special light and sound show every night called the ICC Light & Music Show.

The largest light and sound show on a single building (2013 Guinness World record) is free to watch. During every Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year, they will add some additional thematic shows.

Best way to enjoy:: Usually the Christmas animation on ICC lasts from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. The best vantage points to enjoy the nightly ICC Light & Music Show are either along the waterfront promenades of Hong Kong Island or from the P3/P4 Terraces of the ifc Mall.
