One of the most popular trade shows and fairs in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong Food Expo. Hong Kong locals are crazy for this fair because it opens for the public and you can experience, sample and taste the latest trends in the food industry and are even able to purchase the latest and hottest food products from around the world with discounted prices. In order to attract visitors, usually there will be several promotions (similar to the Computer Fair or Animation-Comic-Game fair) where visitors have a chance to purchase high quality food products for unbelievable prices. Visitors could redeem oyster sauce, gift box of soy sauce, ice cream, pizza with only HK$ 1.
This year the Hong Kong Food Expo is mainly divided into three big sections: the Gourmet Zone, the Public Hall and the Trade Hall. The Gourmet Zone and the Public Hall are open for public visitors whereas the Gourmet Zone can be regarded the most attractive part of the fair. For a majority of visitors of the Hong Kong Food Expo the Gourmet Zone is definitely a long anticipated highlight.
The Gourmet Zone is a special section dedicated to luxury food and beverages from around the world and visitors can experience and sample a large variety of food (e.g. Belgium handmade chocolate, French ice cream, Malaysian wild-fish bladder, Indonesian Kopi Luwak coffee, etc.). In addition, the Gourmet Zone is very popular among visitors since there are many events including cooking demonstrations by star chefs, forum talks, giveaway items as well as competitions and games.
The 23rd Hong Kong Food Expo will feature Japan as a first-time partner country and many visitors are looking forward to experience the latest food trends from Japan.
As with any event in Hong Kong be prepared that it will be crowded. Just to give you a short impression last year’s Hong Kong Food Expo featured more than 900 exhibitors from almost 20 countries. More than 380,000 visitors attended the Hong Kong Food Expo and it is estimated that this year’s Hong Kong Food Expo will easily exceed these numbers.
In case you plan to visit the Hong Kong Food Expo we would highly recommend visiting the fair in the first few days. In previous years, the last day has been the most busy and crowded one mainly due to the fact that the opening hours of the fair is shorter (just open till 6pm). If you cannot find the way, just follow the crowds or the signs. There will be policemen standing along the way to the Food Expo.
