A great news for everyone who loves fireworks: Hong Kong government announced to have the annual National Day Fireworks Celebration (the 1st of October 2015) this year again.

The National Day Fireworks Celebration is actual one of the highlights in Hong Kong and everyone is looking forward for this special celebration. The spectacular firework display became a Hong Kong tradition since the handover in 1997. Hong Kong is celebrating the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1st  every year with a stunning fireworks display, special flag raising ceremony as well as a special horse-racing event. However, in recent years the firework show was canceled and it seemed unclear if this tradition would be continued in the future. The reason for the cancelation in 2014 was due to the “Occupancy Central” Protest in Hong Kong while in 2013 Hong Kong commemorated the victims of the tragic ferry crash in Victoria Harbour (where 39 people lost their lives when two boats collided on October 1, 2012).

Even this year, it seemed for a long time unclear if this National Day tradition would take place again. However, Hong Kong government found with CT Environmental Group Limited a sponsor for this year’s National Day Fireworks Celebration and it seems that the stunning firework tradition will be continued in Hong Kong. The annual event is one of the must-see or must-do events if you are in Hong Kong and truly one kind spectacle you should not miss.

Hong Kong’s fireworks display is one of the most spectacular in the world and always on my favorite list of Hong Kong. Not only because it has Victoria Harbour’s stunning night view as backdrop, but also you can enjoy the fireworks in a very close vicinity and watch the fireworks bursting over your head.

Hong Kong usually will have fireworks on the Chinese New Year, National Day as well as the Anniversary of HKSAR Establishment (the 1st of July). It always attracts several hundred thousands of spectators.

What can you see from the 2015 National Day Fireworks Display?

To celebrate the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China this year, Hong Kong will celebrate this special day with a spectacular fireworks program again. The amazing fireworks will take place at 9:00pm in Victoria Harbour this year.

Be prepared for a 23 minute stunning fireworks show. Four barges are positioned in the middle of Victoria Harbour shooting up fireworks. In the past, the National Day Fireworks Celebration consisted of different scenes highlighting e.g. Chinese characters for China, October 1st or other national symbols such as flowers.

Since the fireworks are launched from the middle of Victoria Harbour, you can enjoy the amazing show from almost anywhere along Victoria Harbour – be it on the Kowloon side or from Hong Kong Island. Enjoying the National Day Fireworks from a boat:

The National Day Fireworks can also be enjoyed on board of the many Harbour Cruises. In the past this has been one of the most popular choice by many visitors and an early booking has been a must to secure a seat on these special harbor cruises during Chinese National Day.

One last piece of advice: Make sure to travel to the event way ahead of the scheduled time. Special transport and traffic arrangement will be in place for the National Day. This includes closure of roads as well as exits of MTR stations. So double-check with your hotel concierge, the official Transport Department Website and/or the police officers on the street.

In the past years, people arrived at the most popular sight-seeing spots hours ahead of the scheduled start of the fireworks. In order to prevent possible overfilling’s Police will close entrance as soon as these spots maximum spectators. So make sure to plan enough time to get a decent spot to watch and enjoy. In addition, make sure to keep an eye on your belongings. Believe us…the places will be packed with people.
