The year 2024 is already on the corner. As always, Hong Kong will welcome the year 2024 with the splendid New Year’s Eve countdown fireworks display.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the New Year’s Eve Countdown Fireworks was cancelled since 2018. The HK tourism authorities just announced that this year’s New Year Countdown fireworks display will make a full comeback with the longest time and broadest distance over Victoria Harbour.

The best places to watch and celebrate the countdown fireworks show will be along Victoria Harbour, on Harbour Tours, from the Peak and Peak Tower, rooftop bars or hotel rooms (more details of vantage locations).

Hong Kong’s fireworks display is one of the best in the world. Not only because it has Victoria Harbour’s stunning night view as the backdrop, but also you can enjoy the fireworks in very close vicinity and feel the fireworks bursting right over your head with a bang. If you have no idea how great the fireworks show is, let’s feel the vibe first (due to the pandemic, the latest one is on the end of 2017).

One of the highlights of the Hong Kong New Year’s Eve celebrations is to countdown and enjoy the impressive fireworks show. The whole city anticipates the New Year and counts down the minutes to welcome 2024.

Especially after cancellation of fireworks display for 5 years, it is highly anticipated by both locals and international visitors. On the 1st of October, the National Day Fireworks show attracted over 43-thousand people watching.

So, if you would like to join the locals and spend the last minute of 2023 with a spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks show, remember to mark down the date and secure the good spot for watching fireworks in advance.

This year’s theme is “New Year New Legend“. the New Year’s Eve fireworks is divided into two parts: “Making-wish session” and the the official New Year’s Eve Countdown and Fireworks show.

Part 1: Making-wish Session (11:00pm – 00:00am)

The mini fireworks celebration started one hour before midnight. Fireworks will be shot to the sky in 15 minutes intervals as part of the New Year’s Eve countdown celebration called “Wish-making Session”.

From 11:00pm onwards, fireworks of four colors (red, green, gold and silver) will illuminate the sky every 15 minutes, representing love, health, happiness and wealth respectively. In 2023, the mini fireworks will be launched from the rooftop of three of the most iconic skyscrapers on Hong Kong Island, including Cheung Kong Center (Central), Harcourt House (Wanchai) and Harbour Centre (Wanchai).

Each of fireworks color represented one specific good wish for the New Year such as Love, Health, Happiness and Wealth. So if you spot the fireworks when you look up the sky, make sure to make a wish for 2024!

Part 2: New Year’s Eve Fireworks (the 1st of January 2024 00:00am)

In the countdown and cheers of the crowds, the large countdown clock will show up at the façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition. Right at midnight the pyrotechnics will be discharged from the five boats on Victoria Harbour. Acompanied by the newly composed music of Western and Chinese, the 12-minute display is expected to be the biggest and longest to date.

In the previous years, the government invited the famous Italian award-winning fireworks “Panzera”. It resembles a large kaleidoscope in the sky.
