Programme of 2018 Hong Kong Chinese New Year Race Day
On the third day of Chinese New Year (18th of February 2018), Hong Kong will hold the Chinese New Year Race Day at the Sha Tin Racecourse (New Territories). Sha Tin Racecourse is usually for day race while Happy Valley Racecourse is for night race.
The 2018 Hong Kong Chinese New Year Race Day will feature a full program of traditional and colorful festivities. You will have chances to experience celebrations such as grand opening show, lion dance performances, cultural and entertainment performances and of course horse races.
Free Gift and Lucky Draw
As always, for important horse race event, there will always be free gift for visitors. For the 2018 Chinese New Year Race Day, visitors will get a “Lucky Pen” (while stocks last) and an instant win card. 1,000 prizes with over HK$378,000 will be given out. The top prize is a 24k gold foil ornament.
Pop Stars Live Performance
This year, Jockey Club invited two legendary artists Adam Cheng (鄭少秋) and Liza Wang (汪明荃) to celebrate with everyone. They will bring some hit songs and share the joy of Chinese New Year. They have a lot of fans all over China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and many other countries. If you are their fan, don’t miss the chance to meet them at the Parade Ring around 11:00am.
Get Good Luck at Blossom Avenue
Visit the decorated Blossom Avenue and get some good luck ahead of race. The famous local Feng Shui Master Mak Ling Ling will also give some advices during the special Fortune Tips session.
Join the fun and games and pick up some Feng Shui tips from Feng Shui Master Mak Ling Ling at the Tipster Forum or enhance your luck with some stylish gold ornaments from the Love Knots gold booths.
The Sha Tin Racecourse opens its gate around noon and last until 6:00pm. The first actual horse race starts around 12:30pm at the Chinese New Year Race Day. Top Races on Chinese New Year Race Day :
The Chinese New Year Race Day being considered as one of the most important horseracing events is definitely not only because the free gifts and pop singers. On this day, there will be a traditional race “Chinese New Year Cup” with the superstar horses.
The Chinese New Year Cup is a race established for the Chinese New Year since 1998. It is contested by Class 1 runners on the 1400m race. In the past, there were many top-class performers such as Super Kid, Good Ba Ba wining this race.

Admission & Ticketing :
– Entrance fee at the Sha Tin Racecourse venue is HK$ 10. Foreign visitors showing their valid travel documents can enjoy free admission.
– Foreign visitors can experience a one-of-kind horseracing experience within the Members’ Enclosure of the Hong Kong Jockey Club by purchasing the special Tourist Badge Option for HK$ 130 (The tourist promotion applies only to tourist).
