Hong Kong MTR corporation will launch the special “Chinese New Year MTR ticket” to welcome the new year. This year will be the Year of the Dragon. Everyone is getting ready to celebrate the festive season. As previous years, a special limited set of Year of the Dragon tickets is ready.

After being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic for several years, Chinese New Year celebrations will be much more alive compared with the previous ones. Restaurants, stores, malls and companies will launch special promotions during this festive seasons while trying to cope with the still ongoing special situation.

Every year’s special commemorative ticket featuring the zodiac of the year will be launched one month prior to the Chinese New Year. Many locals and collectors look forward to the limited edition 2024 Year of the Dragon MTR Limited Souvenir Ticket Set to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Dragon. Similar to the previous years, this year’s ticket set consists of two tickets with different design styles.

One features the calligraphic work of local architect Abe Au, whose brushstrokes are widely used at the station names. You can find his calligraph at Causeway Bay, Sheung Wan, Tin Hau, Central, Wanchai, North Point, Admiralty and many other stations.

Another design portrays a modern dragon from local artist Edward Li.

The artworks of Abe Au is regarded as the art collection of MTR stations, connecting many locals’ memory and life.In fact, his artwork and calligraphy has been featured in MTR stations since 1985.

In China, the dragon represents courage, intelligence, enthusiasm and confidence. Both tickets are held in the auspicious red and gold colours. The beautiful illustrated tickets depict the characteristic of the dragon, wishing the blessing and good luck for the upcoming year. These tickets are also a great souvenir to take home.

Along with the specially-designed tickets, this set also comes with 8 red packets. The lucky packets also feature a special interactive design. The dragon is carrying a gold ingot on the front of the read packet. Once you pull it a pictogram will be revealed. The pictogram is formed by Li’s dragon illustration interchanging with the calligraphic work of Mr. Au.

Besides that, on the backside of the red packets are special QR codes. MTR Mobile users can scan the QR code and download six WhatsApp stickers. These WhatsApp stickers are inspired by the illustrations and can be used as holiday greetings.

The adorable limited edition “Year of the Dragon” MTR Souvenir Ticket Set goes on sale on January 21, 2024 at a price of HK$ 120.

Each limited “Year of the Dragon” Souvenir Ticket is valid for unlimited rides on the MTR on the first day of the Year of the Dragon on February 10, 2024. Except Airport Express, High Speed Rail (HSR), East Rail Line First Class as well as journeys to or from Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and Racecourse stations. In addition, a special discount will be available for online purchase through both MTR official website and MTR Mobile App. The promotion is at a price of HK$ 108 from January 21 – February 10, 2024 to encourage people keeping social distance.
