Here is a bad news for those who have planned to visit Ngong Ping Cable Car before June of this year, becauseNgong Ping Cable Car maintenance closure is scheduled for almost half a year.
Ngong Ping Cable Car Maintenance Closure Starting From January for Rope Replacement
Starting from January 9, 2017, the popular cable car ride will carry out a complete rope replacement and maintenance project. The service will be suspended completely during the scheduled maintenance period.
Rope Replace for Safety after 10-year Operation
The Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car has been operating for 10 years and it is necessary to replace the rope on the bi-cable ropeway of the cable car attraction. Unfortunately, this rope replacement project will take place in the first half year of 2017.
The management chose this time of year to avoid Hong Kong’s typhoon season. It is expected that the project will be finished around the end of June 2017.
Other Attractions on Lantau Island Remain Open
Besides, the attractions around and at the themed Ngong Ping Village including Wisdom Path, multimedia theaters (e.g.Monkey Tale) usually remain unaffected and will be open for visitors during the scheduled maintenance period. Alternative options when Ngong Ping Cable Car is closed
If you are already in Tung Chung, there are basically two alternative transportation options:
1) Take one of the blue Lantau Taxis to the Ngong Ping Village (expect to pay approx. HK$ 180). Red taxi and green taxi are not allowed to operate/drive on Lantau Island area (Get to know more about Hong Kong Taxi regulations). If you take the red taxi from downtown, you have to change to the blue taxi or take the New Lantau Bus No.23 in Tung Chung.
