After 7 years, Hong Kong Tramways finally announced the tram ticket fare increase. Hong Kong Tram will raise ticket prices from July 2018. For those who don’t know much about Hong Kong trams, this double-deck tram is not only a symbol of the city but also carries the memory of many generations. Locals give it a nickname “Ding Ding” for its special bell sound. Hoping on and off the trams is considered a true local experience and highly recommended. It is also the cheapest public transportation in Hong Kong. Now, taking this iconic and affordable public transportation will get a bit more expensive.

New Hong Kong Tram Fares 2018

So, how much do you have to pay for a ride on one of the iconic and historic Ding Ding trams now?

Adults have to pay HK$ 2.60 (was HK$ 2.30) which is around 33 US cents. Tram fares for children are adjusted to HK$ 1.30 (was HK$ 1.20) while seniors have to pay HK$ 1.20 (was HK$ 1.10).

The new prices are effective starting from July 2, 2018.

Hong Kong Tram 4-Day-Tourist-Pass

The HK Tramways also offer a special tourist pass for taking the trams on Hong Kong Island. Maybe you have planned to purchase one of the 4-Day-Tourist-Passes. Then there is some good news. The price for the 4-Day-Tourist-Pass will remain unchanged. You still can purchase the 4-Day-Tourist-Pass for HK$ 34.

Reasons for the Tram Fare Increase 2018

Tram fares will rise by 13 % at the beginning of July. The last price adjustment dates back to June 2011. However, the tram fare increase 2018 has been necessary since the company has been suffering a decline in passengers numbers as well as profits.
